The 1983 volleyball team went 11-1 in the conference and 24-10 overall on its way to an MIAA Championship repeat. The 24 total wins and 11 conference wins set Alma College records and its 15th ranking in the nation marked the first time an Alma College women's team was nationally ranked. It was the highest ranking in memory for any Alma College team. John Chiodini returned as head coach and Elizabeth Black returned as manager with Kathy Topping assisting. Denny Griffin served as team trainer and Lori Weist was the team statistician. Mindy Meyers '84, Vickie Schmidt '84 and Jill Forhan '84 all served as senior captains. Dana Johnson '85 was named Team MVP and also was named First-Team All-MIAA along with Forhan. Second Team All-MIAA honors went to Mindy Cubitt '85 and Denise Schurr '85. Schurr, also being inducted as an individual athlete, was the team's setter and under MIAA rules was not eligible for First Team honors because she didn't play all the way around.
