The 1983 Alma College baseball team was simply one of the most talented teams in school history.

The Scots made quick work of the MIAA during the '83 season on their way to a 10-2 record and the MIAA Conference Championship. Hall of Fame Coach Bill Klenk was Head Coach of the 1983 baseball team and was assisted by Bruce Dickey. Mark Duffield '83 and Duane Painter '83 led the team as captains. Scott Vicari '84 and Sean Burns '84 served as captains elect. Painter was named the team MVP and won the Darrell Geiling Pitching Award, Greg Hatcher '83 won the Most Improved Player Award, Chris Murray '83 earned the Coach's Award, and Sean Burns '84 won the Howard Schaitberger Hitting Award.

The Scots also had ten players earn post season MIAA honors in 1983. Painter was named the MIAA MVP along with being named to the First Team All-MIAA as a designated hitter with a batting average of .395 and second team as a picther with a record of 5-0 and a 2.60 ERA. Duffield also was named to the First Team All-MIAA as a catcher with a batting average of .333. Burns and Buz Zamarron '83 both earned First Team Honors as outfielders with batting averages of .452 and .405, respectively. Kyle Davison '83 was named to the Second Team All-MIAA with a batting average of .400, giving the Scots three outfielders honored on the All-MIAA teams - a rarity in the history of the MIAA. Bob Lovejoy '83 at third base and Vicari at second base both also received Second Team All-MIAA honors and had batting averages of .361 and .372, respectively. Troy Click '84 and Al Goetz '84 earned Honorable Mention nods for their contributions to the team.

The season saw some of the best team performances in school history including a 20 hit game, a 33 total bases game, a 16 run scored game and a four home run game. By the end of the season, the Scots had posted the best team season batting average (.333) in school history, the highest slugging percentage (.499), the most RBI in a season (180) and the most runs scored (199) ? all records that still stand today. The team's 23 total home runs is the third most in school history, and its 67 stolen bases is second on the all time list. The team also established new records in the MIAA for team batting average (.378) and most hits (139). The team batting average record still stands today.
