Coach Charlie Goffnett is the Dean of MIAA women's golf coaches. He is the first and only coach of the Alma College women's golf team that began play in 1991.

During Goffnett's 25-year tenure, Alma has won three conference championships. The 1994 and 1995 teams earned back to back championships and won every conference jamboree. The 1997 team led by four-time all-league and MIAA Medalist Jennifer Peters won the Scots' last championship.

Alma College golf has had 23 first-team all MIAA performers. The school has had five MIAA league MVP's and five league Medalists in it's history. Four-time all-league performer Cathy Curley (Waverley) represented Alma College in the NGCA Women's Golf Championships in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Three-time MIAA Conference Player of the Year Courtney Reinhardt (Clio) earned All-American status with her tremendous play in 2002.

Goffnett also coached the Alma College women's basketball team from 1987-2010 and compiled a career record of 333-217 in those years. The Scots earned three conference championships, appeared in five NCAA National Tournaments, and the team won the NCAA Division III National Championship in 1992. It continues to be the school's only NCAA Championship.

In addition, Goffnett is currently the school's men's golf coach and is an assistant basketball coach for the Scots' men's squad.

A 1990 graduate of Central Michigan University, Goffnett assisted with the basketball programs at Central Michigan, the University of St. Thomas (Tex.) and the University of Texas before coming to Alma in 1987. He, his wife Mary Ellen, and their daughter Kathryn (Alma College '13) reside in Alma.
