Ben Weeks enters the Hall of Fame after spending four seasons as a starting defensive lineman for the Alma College football team from 1968-61. He graduated from the college in 1972.
Weeks was a member of three MIAA championship teams - all of which have been inducted into the Hall of Fame – and helped the Scots to league titles in 1968, 1970 and 1971. Weeks was named a NAIA Third-Team All-American in his senior campaign, and was a two-time selection to the All-MIAA Team, receiving the honor as a junior and senior. In addition, Weeks was named the MIAA's Player of the Week on two occasions, earning the distinction in 1970 and 1971 after playing Olivet College. Weeks was also the team's outstanding lineman in 1971.
When asked about his favorite memories as a Scot, Weeks cited winning football games, holding his son Brian after football games at Bahlke Field, and listening to coach Bill Klenk yell "dig-dig-dig ... ok, alright, ok."
Weeks also enjoyed listening to lectures from professors Pattison, Walser and Skinner, doing things to benefit Alma and pulling pranks at the college.
"I'm humbled to be included in the Alma College Hall of Fame," Weeks said. "I'm honored to now be in the same group of coaches, players and distinguished alumni in Alma Scots history. I'm most excited to be in the hall with the many coaches and teammates from my active years of 1968-72.
Since graduating from Alma College, Weeks earned his Master's Degree in physical education from Central Michigan University in 1975, and was the head football coach at Carson City-Crystal High School at the age of 21. He returned to Alma College in 1976 to be a receivers coach before moving to the Lansing area to be an educator. He considers his last 12 years, working as an elementary physical education specialist for the Lansing Public Schools, to be his most rewarding as an educator. Weeks retired in 2014 after 42 years in public education and business ownership, as he and his wife, Margaret, owned and operated four businesses and two companies.
Weeks has three grown sons and will celebrate his 48th wedding anniversary this year.
