• Participated in football, basketball and baseball.
• All-MIAA for football in 1914.
• Football captain in 1914.
• No team was ever been able to stop "Pug". His smashing attack was invincible and the interference he ran was a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
• "Old man Fate's oldest daughter and Alger Wood stood between the Ypsilanti Normal football team and victory Friday afternoon on Davis Field. When the budding school preceptors and Alma played a scoreless tie on a rain-soaked gridiron, Wood made nearly all the gains and made more than his share of the tackles."
• "'Pug' Wood, playing his fourth year for Alma, is without a doubt the best fullback the Intercollegiate Colleges have seen in years. Wood could always be depended upon to smash the line or circle the ends for the necessary yardage. On defense he was a whole team in himself."
