Ken Mitchell was a key player for four seasons, especially on the undefeated 1967and 1968 MIAA Championship Football teams. A four-year starter, he was a four-time letter winner and first team All-MIAA selection in 1967, 1968, and 1969. He played both offensive guard and defensive end. During his final two seasons he played both ways the entire game. He was the only player to start on both offense and defense. In 1969 he was selected on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 23 team which included all the smaller schools in Michigan. As a senior in 1969, Ken received the Coaches Award for outstanding leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. He was a scholar athlete who was in two academic honorary societies and awarded the Alma College Athletic Department Al Borgman Award for his leadership. He also received the most outstanding defensive player and the most valuable lineman in 1967.
