Coach Jim Cole was one of two longest-tenured football coach in Alma College history, leading the Scots for 21 seasons (1991-2011), ranking him fourth in the MIAA. He posted a record of 114-90, the most wins in program history, including a 68-53 mark in MIAA play. He won MIAA titles in 1999, 2002, and 2004 and was responsible for guiding Alma to three NCAA Division III football playoff appearances. Coach Cole is the only football coach in Scots' history to guide the team to 100 or more victories. He also coached the women's track and field team from 1984-1991 and led the men's squad from 1987-1991. Under his guidance, Alma's women's team won seven MIAA titles. He also mentored nine track All-Americans. The football coaching suite was dedicated in his honor in 2017.
