Jim Parker played both basketball and baseball for Alma College during his time in the maroon. A four year starter for both programs, Parker was honored as a member of an All-MIAA team four times in his career.
In the sport of basketball, Parker was an All-MIAA selection in 73-74, a season where Alma finished second in the MIAA, kickstarting an eight year run that saw Alma finish in the top half of the league.
In the sport of baseball, Parker was one of the offensive leaders for the program, leading the team in batting average as a sophomore and a senior.
In 1972, Parker led the Scots offense with a .362 average, while slugging .765, a mark that stands as the fifth best single season slugging percentage in program history. Parker also hit four triples, which remains tied for the third most in a single season in Alma history. The Scots finished second in the MIAA with a 7-5 mark in league play.
In 1973, Parker was a key contributor on Alma’s first MIAA championship team since 1961. The junior earned second team All-MIAA honors, as Alma went 9-3 to win the title.
In 1974, he was named MIAA MVP for his efforts in leading an MIAA championship team. Alma posted a 9-3 league record, and Parker equaled his career high for single season triples with four. As it stands, his eight triples are the second most in program history. He hit .428, which is the 13th highest single season batting average in program history, and makes him one of just 20 Scots to ever hit over .400 in a single season.
