• Participated in football and track and field.
• Graduate of Lansing Gabriel High School in 1966.
• Played football for Phil Brooks at Lansing Gabriel where he was honorable mention All-State in 1965.
• He was named All-City as a quarterback and led the Shamrocks to an undefeated 9-0 season and a number two ranking in class B.
• Alma College football four-time All-MIAA quarterback.
• Alma College MVP in 1968.
• MIAA MVP in 1968.
• Football team captain in 1969.
• All-NAIA District 23 in 1967 and 1968.
• Honorable mention All-America quarterback in 1968.
• Ran track for three years for the Scots.
• Ran on 440 relay team and helped the team to the MIAA Championship in 1970.
