The Tadd A. Harburn Scholar-Athlete Tradition of Excellence Award is presented to the student-athletes who have best displayed Alma College's famous "Tradition of Excellence" concept in both academic and athletics. Those who hold the highest cumulative GPA for their respective sport, and have contributed maximum unselfish effort, dedication, and perseverance on both the athletic field, and in the classroom are considered for selection.
Dr. Todd and Mrs. Shirley Harburn established the Award in 1997 in honor of Tadd A. Harburn '81, a Scots standout in baseball and football, who exemplified Alma College's "Tradition of Excellence".
The award was discontinued in 2010, after 14 years of recipients, and was reintroduced in the summer of 2023.
The award is given to the student-athlete (or student-athletes) who have the highest cumulative GPA from each athletic program.
In the event of a tie:
       - The student-athlete who completed more credit hours will be designated as that program's winner.
       - If the student-athletes completed the same number of credit hours, then a tie will be awarded.
