Box Score Howell, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team held on for victory on Friday (March 16) afternoon at the Legacy Center, defeating Cleary University, 16-13, in non-conference action.
Senior Brianna Soriano (San Diego, Calif./Serra) scored a career-high seven goals to lead Alma (2-2 overall), while senior Shelby Frazer (Holt, Mich./Holt) added five markers. Senior Stephanie Mangutz (Mio, Mich./Mio-AuSable) was the third Scot to record a hat trick in the game, scoring three goals while adding two assists for five points.
Sophomore Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) stopped 13 shots in goal while picking up her second win of the season.
Cleary (1-6) was led by Bailey Wilson's five goals.
How It Happened
- The two teams played tight in the first 15 minutes of the opening half, trading leads four times. With the score 6-5 in favor of the Cougars, Alma went on a run, scoring five straight goals - including three consecutive markers by Brianna Soriano in a span of 2:43 - to take a 10-6 lead with 1:10 remaining in the half. The Scots led, 11-7, at the break and would not trail the rest of the game.
- Cleary made things interesting in the late stages of the contest, pulling within three goals with 1:14 to play. Soriano shut the door, scoring with 46 seconds to play to put the game out of reach.
