Women's Lacrosse Battles in Loss to Trine

Grace Doherty collected a career-high seven draw controls in the loss

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse was in action on Tuesday evening, taking on the Trine Thunder in MIAA conference play. The Scots were defeated 19-8 on the day.
 
Trine scored twice in the opening period, and held Alma off the board to lead 2-0 after one. It was Makayla Kozal who scored the Scots' first goal just over two minutes into the second quarter to make it 2-1. Trine scored two more goals, before Olivia Lazenby scored with 10:39 to go, making it 4-2. The Thunder then ripped off what turned out to be a game-defining six goal run, pulling away to a 10-2 lead. However, Sarah Bollinger connected off of a Hannah Meyer assist with 31 seconds to go in the half, and Alma's deficit was 10-3 at the break.
 
Out of the half, the Thunder scored the first goal of quarter three, but it was Grace Doherty who scored woman-up from a Lazenby assist to make it 11-4. Bollinger then scored, and assisted a Kozal marker, forcing a Trine timeout after a quick 3-0 run by Alma. The visitors scored twice more, split by a Lazenby woman-up goal, and the Scots trailed 13-7 after three quarters. In the fourth, Kozal made it a hat-trick from a Bollinger assist, but the Thunder pulled away to a 19-8 final score.
 
The Scots were outshot 37-21 in the game, but were more efficient on clears, converting 18 of 19 compared to a 21-27 outing for Trine. Alma also collected 16 ground balls to Trine's 15.
 
Bollinger led with four points, also registering two draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. Grace Doherty also collected a career-high seven draw controls in the loss, and Hannah Meyer had four ground balls.
 
The Scots move to 2-7, 0-4 in MIAA play, and are in action at Albion College on Saturday.
