Albion, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse was in action on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Britons of Albion College in MIAA conference play. A late push fell short, with Albion winning 14-10.
The Brits scored the first two goals of the game, with Alma getting on the board at the 8:26 mark, courtesy of
Sarah Bollinger. Albion scored again, before Bollinger struck on a woman-up opportunity at 3:27, making it a one goal game again. The Britons collected another goal a minute later, but
Makenna Pobocik found the back of the net woman-up, to cut the deficit to 4-3 after one quarter. The teams traded goals early in the second, with Albion scoring first, before
Olivia Lazenby scored 30 seconds later. However, the Brits would score five unanswered goals, and Alma trailed 10-4 at halftime.
The third quarter featured just three goals, with
Allyson Harvey splitting a pair of Albion markers at the 7:38 mark in the period. The Scots trailed 12-5 heading into the fourth. The final period was all Alma. Two goals from Bollinger, along with a tally from Lazenby, saw Alma pull back to within four with 11 minutes to play. The scoring went silent for a stretch, before Pobocik scored with 5:43 to play to drop the deficit again. Lazenby also managed another goal, but two more Albion tallies helped put things out of reach. In the end, the comeback fell short, 14-10 Albion the final.
Bollinger led with four goals and three ground balls, also collecting two draw controls. Lazenby also recorded a hat-trick while causing a pair of turnovers.
Grace Doherty also filled up the stat sheet, with five draw controls, four turnovers caused, and four ground balls.
Madison Ramirez (2-8) recorded nine saves in the loss.
The Scots drop to 2-8 with the loss, 0-5 in the conference, and are back in action at Calvin on Friday.
