Alma, MI – After nine seasons at the helm of the Alma College Women's Lacrosse program. Head Coach
Ashley Johnson will be stepping down ahead of the 2025 season to pursue an opportunity outside of athletics.
"I would like to thank Ashley for all of the time she has given to the Alma College Women's Lacrosse program." said Vice President/Director of Athletics Sarah Dehring. "Her efforts over nine seasons have always been visible in the care that she demonstrated for student-athletes, her fellow staff, and Alma College as a whole."
Hired ahead of the 2016 season, Johnson departs Alma College as the winningest coach in the 13-year history of the program.
"Leading this team has been an incredible honor and I am deeply grateful for the support of the players, families, and the entire Alma College community." Said Johnson. "Together, we've built something special, and I'm proud of all we've accomplished over the last nine years. I will forever cherish the relationships I've built here and am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a special community. I wish the team and the program nothing but continued success, and I will forever be cheering them on. Go Scots!"
She has amassed a total of 55 victories, and coached 16 All-MIAA selections. Under her guidance, the program hosted its first playoff game in nine years. The game occurred when Alma earned the #2 seed in the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament in 2023.
Under Johnson, the Scots rewrote the record books. Students-athletes that Johnson coached account for 155 individual record book slots, and her teams account for 86 team record book slots. 27 current records were set under her watch. She also coached the program's longest winning streak in 2022, lasting nine games.
Her program also built a reputation as one that gives back to the community. The Scots won the NCAA Division III Team Community Awareness Award on three occasions, and were the Team Works Top NCAA Division III Team Community Service Champions three times.
In 2024, Johnson was named as the Head Coach of the Year by the Alma College Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, she graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a B.S. in Psychology in 2011, before earning a Masters of Education from Grand Valley State University in 2015.

th Head Women's Lacrosse coach immediately.
