Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The Alma College women's lacrosse team got back to a winning streak on Tuesday, April 11th, as they defeated the Adrian Bulldogs.16-12. The Scots moved to 9-1 on the season with the win.
Alma opened u; the scoring just 15 seconds into the game as Emma Keith scored on a feed from Sam Peterson, giving Alma an early lead. Adrian responded shortly after and tied the game, before Keith tallied another to retake the lead. Sarah Bollinger increased the Scots lead by putting one past the keeper, putting Alma up 3-1. The Bulldogs cut into the lead with another goal to tighten the game up with short time remaining in the first. With a man-up opportunity, Kirsten Browne again gave Alma a two-goal lead with an assist from Joanna Scorziello in the last twenty seconds. Before the first quarter buzzer, Adrian snuck one past with three seconds to finish the quarter trailing the Scots 4-3.
The second quarter belonged all to the Scots as Alma held the bulldogs scoreless for the entire 15 minutes. Alma was able to pull away from the Bulldogs with seven unanswered goals. Scorziello added another man-up goal on a pass from Peterson to kick off the scoring for the second quarter. Browne would score the next two scores on passes from Keith and Peterson with a goal in the middle by Rileigh McGeorge. The same goes for Peterson as she scored two of the final three goals on her own and Keith found the net on the other with another assist from Scorziello. The Scots finished the first half with an 11-3 lead over Adrian.
The Scots and Bulldogs split the third quarter with two goals apiece coming out of the half. Bollinger scored the first and Peterson scored the second for Alma increasing the lead to double-digits. The Bulldogs scored the final two scores of the quarter to bring the deficit back down to eight with 15 minutes remaining.
Adrian started the final frame off with two early goals to get within six goals of the Scots. Jamie Sherman put a halt to the Bulldogs scoring run with a goal assisted by Browne. Peterson scored her fourth and final goal of the game just a minute after Sherman to put the Scots up 15-7. Browne scored the final Scots goal with a helper from Peterson to put Alma up nine with ten minutes remaining in the game. Adrian would score five goals in the remaining time to pull within four of the Scots but it would not be enough as Alma would get their second win in a row.
Peterson tallied nine goals in the contest for a game-high, with Browne recording five as the next Scots player. McGeorge and Sherman both scooped up six groundballs for a game-high between both teams. Bollinger won seven draw controls and McGeorge, Bollinger and Ava Frederickson lead the game with four caused turnovers each.
Alma will now play host to Hope College at Bahlke Field on Saturday, April 15th. The Game will begin at 1:00 PM.
