Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Alma College women's lacrosse team traveled to Kalamazoo College on Wednesday, April 27. The Scots fell to the Hornets, 15-14, in double overtime.
Kalamazoo started the scoring early in the first quarter with two consecutive goals followed by an unassisted goal from Emma Keith, 2-1.
Kirsten Browne found the back of the cage in the beginning of the second quarter with the pass from Keith. Olivia Bunce followed suit with her first goal of the season. The Hornets then went on a three-goal streak for a score of 5-3. Keith added two more goals off a free position shot and a pass from Browne. Kalamazoo ended the half with two additional goals for a halftime score of 7-5.
The third quarter began with a goal from the Hornets, but Jamie Sherman matched it with the pass from Ava Frederickson. Kalamazoo then added three goals to the board before Browne found Joanna Scorziello for the goal, followed by a free position goal from Browne, and an unassisted goal from Sam Peterson, 11-9.
Kalamazoo added two points to start the fourth quarter but both Peterson and Browne then scored off free position shots. The Hornets added one more point to the board before Alma tied the game with two goals from Browne for a score of 14-14.
Overtime remained unanswered until Kalamazoo found an opening at the 1:55 mark in double overtime for a final score of 15-14.
Browne led the Scots with seven points off five goals and two assists. Keith followed close behind with four points off three goals and one assist. Peterson and Frederickson each posted five groundballs and three caused turnovers while Goalie Alaina Frye posted a career high of 15 saves for a career total of 112 saves.
Alma continued their record-breaking season with a new record of 162 caused turnovers surpassing the previous record of 154. Browne and Rileigh McGeorge both broke the record from most draw controls in a single season with 74 from Browne and 71 from McGeorge. The Scots also tied a program record with the most free position goals in a single season with 52. Alma is also only two goals away from having the most goals in a season in program history.
