Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ga.– The Alma College softball team traveled to Georgia on March 4, to take part in the NFCA Leadoff Classic Tournament. The Scots started their trip with two wins on the first day. The Scots beat Central College, 10-2 and recorded the second victory over MIT, 9-4.

The Scots opened the trip up against Central College and trailed by a run after the first inning. After shutting the Dutch out in the top of the second, Alma would take control of the game. Starting off the offense was Danielle Dumoulin after hitting a double to left center field. Hannah Fleming would be walked in the following at bat. Chloe Deckrow would single and would make the bases loaded for Jessica Eva now at the plate. Eva would reach first on a fielder's choice, then to second on an error, allowing two runs the score and the Scots to take the lead. Haley Ullrich doubled to center field in the following at bat allowing Eva to cross home and add another run for Alma. Ullrich would reach home in the next at bat after Taylor Griffith singled. After Griffith advanced to second on a wild pitch and Emma Fraser was walked, Hadyn Terwilliger would add another double to her season total and allow for both runners to score and eventually end the inning with a 6-1 lead.

After the Dutch scored another run in the top of the third, Alma would also score an additional run from Ullrich on a single, advancing Aynslee Koutz across home plate. Alma again would shut Central College out in the fourth, allowing for their offense to take the field again. Hannah Fleming would double to left center allowing Dumoulin to score. With Fleming in scoring position, Deckrow would single to left field and Fleming would add another run for the Scots. Both teams would not score another run in the fifth inning, and Alma would win their first game of the day.

Ullrich, Terwilliger, Dumoulin, and Fleming would record a double for the Scots. Ullrich also pitched for a complete game and improved her season record to 2-2.

The Scots came back to play another game after a short break against MIT. The Scots would pick up where they left off in the last game and found their offense early. Leading off the Scots in the first at bat would be Ullrich, who would double to get on base for Alma. Griffith would follow behind and single. Fraser also singled, which sent Ullrich home and scored a run for the Scots. Dumoulin would reach first on an error several batters later and load the bases. Fleming would connect with a pitch to double and send two runs across home plate. Deckrow batting next would single and allow Dumoulin to score. The Scots would score two more additional run to take a 7-0 lead in the top of the first.

Alma would keep the Engineers off the board through the top of the third inning. Alma scored another run in the third with the bases loaded and Griffith would be walked. Through three innings, Alma would have an 8-1 lead. MIT scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the fourth but would not score another run until the final inning. In the top of the seventh, Koutz singled to get on base for Alma. Two batters later, Eva connected on a pitch allowing her to reach third and Koutz reaching home for the Scots to increase the lead to 9-2. MIT scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Scots would come out victorious.

Ullrich (2), Dumoulin, and Fleming would each record doubles. Eva recorded a triple. Terwilliger added one stolen base for Alma. Daniella Little pitched for Alma and recorded her first win of the season.

The Scots will play again on March 5, as they play a double header against Chris Newport University and Depauw University (IN). The first game starts at 10:00 a.m., with the second starting at 12:00 p.m.
