Ada, OH – Alma College Softball continued their non-conference slate on Sunday afternoon, taking on Wittenberg and Ohio Wesleyan. Alma defeated the Tigers 13-2 in five innings, before beating OWU 7-2.
Alma 13, Wittenberg 2 (5 Innings)
In game one of the day, Wittenberg opened the scoring in the 2
nd inning, scoring on an RBI double to make it 1-0. Alma clapped back in a big way in the bottom of the inning.
Natalia Rodriguez tied the game with an RBI double to score
Camille Lozmack. The Scots then loaded the bases, and
Haylie Alsip cleared them in one swing. Her RBI double plated
Peyton Fether,
Mckenna Salley, and
Jayden Townsend to make it 4-1. A
Jordyn Porter home run made it 6-1 Alma after two innings.
Wittenberg hit back in the top of the 3
rd, but once again it was the Scots who scored on a Tiger error and a double from Salley to extend the lead to 8-2 after three innings.
In the bottom of the very next frame, the Scots blew the game wide open. Lozmack started the scoring with a single up the middle that scored Porter and Alsip, and a
Sophia Somerset double drove in two more runs in the form of Lozmack and
Katelyn Thomas. The scoring concluded when Salley collected her third hit of the game, scoring Somerset. The scoreboard rested showing 13-2 Alma after five innings.
Salley led the offense for Alma, with three hits and a pair of RBI in the win. Alsip, Porter, and Lozmack each had two hits apiece as well, accounting for eight RBI between the three of them.
Mikaylyn Kenney (4-2) pitched a complete game for Alma. She struck out four, while allowing just three hits.
Alma 7, OWU 2
The Scots fell behind early in game two, with OWU putting up a run in each of the first two innings. Alma responded in the 3
rd, when Thomas hit a game-tying RBI single, scoring
Julia Duncan and Porter. In the 4
th, Alma took the lead when Lozmack drew a bases-loaded walk. It remained a one-run game late into the contest, with Alma managing to plate an insurance run in the 7
th, when Lozmack scored on a wild pitch. Moments later, a Battlin' Bishop error saw
Kacee Gray and
Julia Nowicki score to make it 6-2, and Alsip made it home on a Porter single to cap the scoring at 7-2.
Fether and Porter each had two hits in the win, and four other Scots managed a base knock in the game.
Morgan Westall (7-0) pitched a complete game in the win, striking out four and allowing eight hits.
The Scots are back in action on Thursday for a doubleheader at Baldwin Wallace.
