Alma, MI – Alma College Softball continued their non-conference slate on Monday afternoon, welcoming Ohio Northern University to Scots Park for a doubleheader. Alma swept the day, winning game one 6-0, before notching a comeback 5-4 win in game two.

Alma opened the scoring in game one in the 1
st inning, when
Jordyn Porter connected on an RBU double, scoring
Peyton Fether and
Haylie Alsip to take a 2-0 lead. Porter came around moments later, when
Katelyn Thomas connected on an RBI double of her own to center field.
Natalia Rodriguez joined the party with a third consecutive RBI double to left field to make it 4-0.
Things remained quiet on the scoreboard until the 5
th inning, when Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk to score a 5
thrun, and
Chloe Paryaski made it 6-0 in the 6
th inning on an RBI single to right field. The Scots completed the shutout, winning 6-0.
Alma was led by Fether, who went 4-4 in the win. Seven other Scots notched a base hit, with the Scots pounding out 11 in total.
Morgan Westall (8-1) pitched a complete game shutout in the win. She struck out six, while allowing just four hits and one walk.
Alma 5, Ohio Northern 4
In game two, it was ONU who opened the scoring in the 2
nd inning. The Polar Bears plated three runs on a sac fly, and a single. The Scots were able to answer in the bottom half of the inning, when Rodriguez singled to left field, and
Camille Lozmack scored on the play.
The score remained 3-1 late into the game, when Alma closed the gap with a 5
th inning RBI double from
Julia Duncan. Trailing by one run, the game was tied when
Haylie Alsip hit a hard grounder to short, which deflected off of the Polar Bear short stop's glove. It allowed
Sophia Somerset to scamper home, tying the game at 3-3. The tie last all of a half inning, as ONU took the lead back in the 7
th on an RBI double. The Scots were down to their final two outs, when Lozmack singled to right-center, scoring
Kacee Gray to tie the game at 4-4 once again. Moments later, Somerset was the walk-off hero, connecting on a base hit up the middle to score
Katelyn Thomas, and win the game.
Alsip went 3-4 in the win, and Alma got two-hit performances from Porter, Duncan, Lozmack, and Rodriguez.
Mikaylyn Kenney started in the circle, pitching 1.2 innings. She struck out one and allowed three runs. She was relieved by
Bella Treloar, who pitched 4.1 innings, and allowed four hits and one run. Westall (9-1) entered in the 6
th, pitching one inning and getting the win in relief. She allowed one hit against four batters faced.
The Scots move to 14-4 with the wins, and are back in action at Heidelberg on Wednesday.
