Alma, MI – Alma College Softball was in action on Friday afternoon, taking on the Comets of The University of Olivet to open MIAA conference play. The Scots earned a pair of run-rule wins on the day, both games with a final of 10-0.
Alma 10, Olivet 0 (5 Innings)
Alma opened the scoring in the 1
st, when
Julia Duncan connected on an RBI single to center field, scoring
Peyton Fether. In the next inning, Alma tacked on another run when Fether scored
Natalia Rodriguez with a single to left field. It was Rodriguez who would advance the Alma lead further in the 3
rd, hitting a double to left field that got
Camille Lozmack across home plate. Leading 3-0, RBI singles from
Jordyn Porter and Lozmack made it 5-0 Scots. The same culprits doubled Alma's lead in the 5
th, with Porter hitting a two-RBI single to center field, and Lozmack doubling down the right field line. The final score rested at 10-0 Scots.
Lozmack led with a 3-4 ballgame, and Porter was 2-3 as the pair accounted for seven of Alma's runs.
Katelyn Thomas and Rodriguez each registered two hits as well, as the Scots pounded out 14 base knocks in the win.
Morgan Westall (10-1) pitched a dominant complete game, allowing just two hits, and striking out 10 Comets in five innings.

st in game two.
Julia Duncan drew a bases-loaded walk to score
Haylie Alsip, and
Katelyn Thomas secured another bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0. Lozmack then grounded into a double play, with
Jordyn Porter scoring to make it 3-0. The Scots left inning one with a 4-0 lead, after
Natalia Rodriguez bit a single through the left side. The Scots added to the lead on a Comet error in the 2
nd, and Rodriguez hit a two-run homer to center field in the 3
rd to bring the score to 7-0. In the 4
th, an RBI double from Porter and an RBI groundout from Duncan closed the scoring at 10-0.
Porter and Rodriguez each had two hits, accounting for six runs. Fether also had two hits, and three others had a base knock.
Mikaylyn Kenney (5-2) pitched a no-hitter, going five innings in just 65 pitches, and striking out 11 Comets in the process.
The Scots are back in action on Tuesday, continuing MIAA conference play at Adrian College.
