Ada, OH – Alma College Softball was in action on Saturday, taking part in a pair of games at the Ohio Northern Invitational. The Scots defeated Wittenberg 5-3, before defeating Mount St. Joseph 8-6.
Alma 5, Wittenberg 3
The Scots hit the scoreboard first in their opening game of the day, scoring in the top of the 2
nd inning. It was
Mckenna Salley who hit a single down the left field line to score
Camille Lozmack.
Leading 1-0, Alma broke things open in the 3
rd, starting with Lozmack. The sophomore hit a single to the shortstop, scoring
Jordyn Porter to make it 2-0. The lead was then doubled when
Natalia Rodriguez scored Lozmack and
Katelyn Thomas with an RBI double to left center. With the advantage at four,
Sophia Somerset doubled to right field, scoring
Kacee Gray.
Wittenberg tried to make a late comeback, scoring a run in the 6
th, and three in the 7
th. However, it wasn't enough to reel Alma back in, and the Scots took home a 5-3 win.
Porter, Lozmack, and Rodriguez all had two hits in the win, and Rodriguez plated a pair of runs to lead the offense.
Morgan Westall (6-0) pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out eight.

In the nightcap, it was once again Alma who started the scoring.
Peyton Fether got things started in the 3
rd. The outfielder hit an RBI single to center, scoring
Lily Thompson. Porter and Thomas added to the advantage, with the former scoring two, and the latter scoring one run. The lead grew to 4-0 in the 3
rd, and was up to 5-0 in the 4
th, courtesy of a
Julia Duncan RBI double, which scored Fether. MSJ hit back in the 5
th, but Alma's offense answered. Salley and Fether each had productive outs, scoring a run apiece to make it 7-1. In the 6
th inning, Porter put the cherry on top of the offensive side of the game, hitting a home run to center field. A late five-spot from The Mount gave the Scots a scare, but Alma held on to come out 8-6 winners.
Fether and Porter had two hits apiece in the win, and accounted for five of Alma's eight runs in the game.
Mikaylyn Kenney (3-2) got the win in the circle, pitching 6.1 innings. She struck out five batters, while walking just one.
Grace Main picked up her first save of the season, pitching 0.2 innings in relief.
The Scots are off to a 2-0 start, and are back in action in Ada tomorrow.
