Box Score Alma, MI – Alma Women's Soccer celebrated Senior Day and hosted Saint Mary's College on Saturday. Alma pulled out the win by a score of 3-2.
The game was hotly contested in the first half, but neither team was able to score. At the half it was 0-0. Out of the half Alma opened the scoring in the 52nd minute as Lily Stephan sent her 7th goal of the season into the net from a Paige Moore assist. The 1-0 lead lasted 16 minutes until Saint Mary's was able to equalize. Just 6 minutes later a clearing attempt from Alma ended up in the back of the Scots own net. The own goal gave the Belles a lead that held into the final 10 minutes.
Things were looking rather bleak in the 83rd minute as the Belles were controlling possession, but Paige Moore was able to get onto the end of a ball from Stephan and rocket it home to level things. A draw seemed like it was on the cards, but Moore had other plans. In the 86th minute she found herself on the run with space and sent a ball into the box, where Paige Kohler took some contact, but was able to send the ball to the twine to secure the lead, and eventually the win for Alma.
Paige Moore had the offensive performance of the day, notching the game tying goal, and 2 assists. Allison Bush stopped 6 of 8, picking the win, her 4th of the season.
Alma outshot the Belles 22-11, and had 10 corner kicks to the visitors 7.
Alma improves to 4-6-2 on the season, and will need just a draw against Adrian to secure a place in the MIAA Tournament.
