ELMHURST, ILL. — The Alma College Women's Soccer team traveled past the Windy City to compete against North Central College and Elmhurst University over the weekend of Sept. 17. 

The Scots started with a close contest against North Central on Saturday. Alma's highlight was goal scored by Paige Stephens, her third on the season. Forming the play, Lily Stephan found the perfect opening to Stephens for her to execute. Stephan, a junior from DeWitt, leads the Scots in assists on the season. Alma created many opportunities offensively, but ended up falling to the Cardinals, 2-1. 

"Each performance is better than the last, which can be frustrating when the scores don't always reflect the performance," head coach Meghan Gorsuch said. 

The Stephens and Stephan combination carried through Sunday's game at Elmhurst. Paige Stephens made a pass to Lily Stephan for Stephan's third goal of the season. Jackie Dietz and Emma Yeager stepped up due to injuries and played large roles defensively. The Bluejays took the win, 4-1, making Alma 0-2 on the weekend. 

"We talk about how cultivating endurance is a choice. Commitment and expectation must be properly combined to get to the sweet spot of success," Gorsuch said. "We will continue to focus on the present and embrace the current step in preparation for MIAA play, which is now just two weeks away." 

Next, the Scots will defend their home turf on Saturday, Sept. 25, against Manchester University, before they head to Adrian College on Tuesday, Sept 28, to kick off conference play.
