Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team fell, 2-0, to the Hope College Flying Dutch in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals Monday night. The Scots, the tournament's sixth seed, finish their season with an overall record of 3-5 for the spring 2021 season. The third-seeded Flying Dutch advance to the Tournament semifinals.
Both teams displayed great defensive effort throughout the game with not allowing many scoring chances. In the first half, Hope only had two shots on goal while the Scots had one. One of the Flying Dutch's shots did find the back of net in the opening 45 minutes that put them up 1-0 at the break.
Alma started to create some more chances in the second half with three shots on goal. The Scots were looking for the equalizer, however Hope stymied any opportunity. With less than 10 minutes to go, the Flying Dutch scored again for some insurace while putting Alma in a tough situation.
The Scots would not go down without a fight until the very end though. Time would run out on Alma's season that included back-to-back road wins and a defining senior night victory.
Ally Wentworth finished her career with seven saves in net for the Scots. The Mount Pleasant native ended up with 217 career saves over 41 games played. Her career save percentage was .770 and her goal against average was 1.70 as a Scot. Wentworth led the MIAA in saves in both her sophomore and senior seasons.
The Scots tallied four shots on goal in the contest. Senior Tori Aquilino had one of them while Paige Moore, Peyton Erndteman, and Lily Stephan had the others.
Alma will graduate its senior class of Wentworth, Aquilino, Olivia Harkins, Makenzie Rajewski, and student manager Allena Parker. The Scots will return for the fall 2021 season.
