Women's Soccer Scores Four in Road Win at Olivet

Box Score

OLIVET, Mich. – The Alma College women's soccer team earned its second-straight win on Thursday in a 4-3 victory at Olivet College. The Scots moved to 2-3 and are currently tied for second-most conference wins in the MIAA standings.

Makenzie Rajewski, Abigail Dawes, and Lily Stephan all scored goals for the Scots. Ally Wentworth played all 90 minutes in net and posted five saves.

Alma found the back of the net in the third minute of the first half with Rajewski, the senior, scoring her first goal of the season. A little over seven minutes later, the Scots forced a turnover at midfield. Stephan then sent a pass up to Dawes and the freshman beat the Olivet netminder for her second goal of the year.

Olivet would respond with a pair of goals to tie things up at 2-all. However, the Scots would quickly go ahead again with Stephan finding the back of the net for her second goal of the season. The first half would end with Alma leading, 3-2.

A little over 10 minutes into the second half, the Comets would put the ball into their own net to make it 4-2 Alma. Olivet cut it back to a one-goal game with about 25 minutes left in the regulation.

The Alma defense would stand tall the rest of the way by not allowing Olivet to find the equalizer. The Scots let clock run out on the Comets to earn their second win of the week.

Stephan led the team with four shots. Dawes had all three of her shots go on net. Paige Moore and Tori Aquilino each tallied two shots in the game.

"Our main focus today was to come out with a strong start and bring the heat right away. With a goal in less than five minutes from the starting whistle, I'd say we accomplished that," Head Coach Meghan Gorsuch said. "Olivet always shows grit and physicality, which we handled well, but as a group we are still learning how to perform consistently. This requires reflection and identification of habits that we need to change — and application of conscious effort to change those things, as individuals and as a group."

Alma has a little over a week to prepare for its next game. The Scots will make the trip to Holland to face Hope College on Friday, April 9th at 7 p.m.
