Women's Lacrosse Drops MIAA Opener 14-7 to Adrian

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 decision to Adrian College on Wednesday (March 27) evening in its conference opener. Alma falls to 3-4 on the year while Adrian improves to 5-1.

Olivia Benoit (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) and Courtney Hartnagle (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) each scored two goals for the Scots; Benoit also had a team-high five draw controls. Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) made 14 saves in the loss.

Adrian's Annie Rice led all scorers with five goals. Gwyneth Carlson added four goals and a game-high seven draw controls.

How It Happened

  • Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion) opened the game with a free position goal just over one minute into the game.
  • Adrian scored the game's next four goals and Rice factored in on all of them. She scored two unassisted goals and assisted on two others.
  • Kennedy Hilley (Lake Odessa, Mich. / Lakewood) cut the deficit in half with a free position goal at 21:35. Hartnagle also scored her first goal of the game on a free position attempt at 9:53. Kalyn Thompson (Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton) would score an unassisted man-up goal just before the half and the Scots would enter the break down 9-4.
  • Benoit got on the board with a goal from Hartnagle five minutes into the second half. After three straight goals from the Bulldogs in a 90-second span, Hartnagle scored her second goal on a free position attempt, followed by Benoit's second goal at 9:26 to bring Alma to within five goals at 12-7. Adrian would run out the clock and add two more goals to its total by the final horn.

Notables

  • Ray continues to lead the conference in saves, now totaling 105 on the year. She is also second in save percentage at 57.1-percent.
  • Ray has amassed 449 saves in her career. She is 19 saves away from breaking the program's all-time record, set by Stephanie Herman who played from 2012-14.
  • Benoit now has 30 goals on the season and 69 goals in her career. With two goals in this game, she moves into a tie for fifth place on the program's all-time list and 14 behind fourth-place Shelby Frazer.
