Franklin, Ind. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team beat Franklin College (IN) 16-12 on Saturday (March 2) afternoon.

Olivia Benoit (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) led the way for the Scots (3-1) with a career-high seven goals, eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Haley Willman (Hemlock, Mich. / Breckenridge), Kennedy Hilley (Lake Odessa, Mich. / Lakewood) and Alyssa Gall (Richmond, Mich. / Richmond) each posted their first career hat tricks while scooped up nine ground balls. Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) made 12 saves in the win.

Brooke Hughes scored five goals for the Grizzlies (0-1) and Abbey Voss added three. Courtney Jones made 19 saves on 35 shots.

Alma got out to a 9-1 lead and led 10-4 at the half before Franklin inched back. The Grizzlies would pull to within four in the second half but Alma wouldn't let them get any closer.

How It Happened

• The Scots scored the first four goals of the game - one from Benoit, one from Gall and two from Hilley - before Franklin scored once.
• Benoit and Gall would score the next five goals. Gall scored twice on Grizzly penalties, the second coming on an assist from Benoit. The rest were unassisted.
• Hughes scored three times for Franklin to end the half, including twice in the final minute. Benoit also added a goal to add to Alma's cushion.
• Shelbi Hunter made it a five-goal game early in the second half, but Willman responded with two goals, herself to push the lead back up to seven.
• After a goal from Benoit, Franklin scored three times in three minutes to get to within four. From there, the Scots and Grizzlies traded one goal apiece until the end of the game.

• Olivia Benoit's seven goals are tied for the fourth-highest output in program history. Her seven caused turnovers are tied for the most in program history and her eight ground balls if tied for fifth on the all-time list.
• Haley Willman's nine ground balls are tied for the fourth-most in program history.
• Tori Basso's nine draw controls are tied for the third-most in program history.
• Alma outshot the Grizzlies 44-30.
• The Scots were successful on 12 of 17 clear attempts.
