Alma Drops Season Finale at Hope

Holland, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team fell to Hope College 3-0 on Tuesday (Oct. 29) evening.

The loss drops Alma to 10-5-1 overall and 5-3 in the conference but doesn't keep the Scots from hosting a playoff game in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. Hope improves to 5-1-2 in the league and will have a first-round bye as the second seed.

Sarah Mikesell began the scoring in the 23rd minute. Brinley Nieuwenhuis added a goal in the 41st minute, then scored again in the 62nd. The Flying Dutch had eight shots, four of which were on goal. Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) made one save.

Lexi Russell (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston High School) and Lily Stephan (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt High School) each had two shots, one of which was on goal. Kayleigh Reilly also forced Jordan Ellingboe to make a save. Only 11 fouls were called in the game, seven on the Scots.

Alma will host fifth-seeded Albion College in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 2) at 1:00 p.m.
