Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Saint Mary's (IN) 4-3 on Saturday (Oct. 12) afternoon.
Trailing 3-1 after 56 minutes, Alma scored three unanswered goals to earn the win. Kayleigh Reilly (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant High School), Lily Stephan (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt High School), Makenzie Rajewski (Midland, Mich. / Midland) and Lexi Russell (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston High School) all scored. Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) made two saves in goal.
Saint Mary's first got on the board off the counter-attack. Rose Stackhouse found Lexi Trombly up the middle of the field and Trombly was able to score on Wentworth. In the 25th minute, Sophia Fleming ripped a free kick from 20 yards out to the far post, giving Wentworth no chance for a save.
Reilly scored her second goal of the year off an intended cross. Saint Mary's keeper Thallia Robles misjudged the ball as it was affected by the wind during its flight and it curved in just inside the back post.
Stackhouse found the back of the net in the 56th minute on a breakaway; Wentworth got her fingers on it but not enough to make a save. Stephan came back two minutes later when she ripped a shot from the top of the box to the top right corner of the goal. Rajewski tied the game in the 77th minute with a shot from the far side of the box to the far post. The shot sank after it passed Robles in goal and tucked in just under the crossbar. Russell broke the tie less than one minute later on a corner kick. The ball was knocked around in front of the goal before it fell to Russell's right foot. With a clear path in front of her, she fired it past the keeper to give Alma the lead.
Alma heavily outshot the Belles 30-5; 12 of Alma's shots were on goal. Alma also took 10 corner kicks to Saint Mary's zero.
The Scots return to Scotland Yard on Tuesday (Oct. 15) when they host Olivet College for a game starting at 4:00 p.m.
