Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. - Emily Eldridge (Battle Creek, Mich. / Battle Creek Lakeview) scored a career-high 22 points for the Alma College women's basketball team in a 67-55 loss at Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon. Alma is now 2-17 overall and 1-10 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association while Kalamazoo is 7-12 and 4-6.
Eldridge shot 9-of 16 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds in 25 minutes. Madison Hill (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) also reached double figures for the Scots with 10 points on three three-pointers and a free throw. Chloee King (Standish, Mich. / Standish-Sterling Central) went for eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) tallied nine boards, tying her career-high, to go along with two blocks.
Kalamazoo's Isabelle Clark led all scorers with 24 points. Emily Kozal totaled 21, while Danielle Simon put up 12 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
How It Happened
- Kalamazoo scored a game-high 24 points in the first quarter, led by Clark who tallied 13. Alma trailed by 14 going into the second quarter.
- After a slow start, the Scots won the second quarter 18-15 behind 10 of 12 made free throws, five of which came from King. Eldridge posted eight of her 22 points in the frame to go along with two rebounds. Hengesbach grabbed four boards in the quarter to lead all players. The Scots trailed 39-28 at the break.
- The third quarter saw each team go on extended runs. Kalamazoo began the quarter on a 14-4 run over the first 4:36 before the Scots responded with a 15-6 run to maintain a 12 point deficit going into the final ten minutes. The third quarter was Scots' best shooting quarter - they shot 54 percent from the field (7-of-13) and made three of their seven three-pointers. They also registered assists on six of their seven made shots - Chloee King tallied five in the frame.
- Both teams shot poorly in the fourth quarter, going a combined 5-of-27. Eldridge played all 10 minutes and scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds.
Notables
- Alma committed a season-low ten turnovers.
- Forty rebounds are the most by the Scots since Dec. 30 against Mount Union when they pulled down 41.
- Alma went 17-of-23 from the free throw line (73.9 percent). Seventeen free throws are the most Alma has made in its last three games.
- Chloee King had six of Alma's 11 assists. She also tied her career-high of seven rebounds.
