Late goal stops women's soccer at Albion

Albion, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team wrapped up the first half of play in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association one Saturday (Sept. 30), falling by a 3-2 margin to Albion College.

Senior Janelle Christensen (Allendale, Mich./Allendal) scored twice for the Scots (2-6-2 overall, 2-6-0 MIAA) in the second half to erase a 2-0 deficit, but the Britons (6-3-1, 5-2-1 MIAA) scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute.

Senior Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) made seven saves in goal for the Scots.

How It Happened

  • Albion scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute on a goal by Molly Hancock. 
  • The Britons made it 2-0 in the second half, scoring in the 66th minute on a goal by Haley Kennedy.
  • Janelle Christensen tied the game for Alma, scoring in the 68th and 74th minutes.
  • Samathan LaRocca netted the game-winner in the 83rd minute.

Noteables

  • Janelle Christensen now has a team-high four goals, matching Amanda Mladenovski.
  • Christensen posted her second career multi-goal game and has scored a career-best four times this season.
