Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team dropped a tightly contested match 3-2 to Albion on Friday (Sept. 22) night.
Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) led the Scots with 10 kills, tying her season-high. Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich. / Gaylord) and Haley Novak (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) each posted double-digit digs and assists, though Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott Country) led the all players with 24 digs.
The Scots are now 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while the Britons improve to 7-6 and 3-2.
What Happened
- The first set saw 11 ties as the two teams went to extra points. Up 24-21, Alma allowed Albion to go on a 4-0 run. The Scots hung tough and kept the set going until they scored the final three points to win the set 30-28. Bush had four kills in the set and Pelach had three and eight digs.
- Albion took the second set 25-18. It went on a 9-1 run to go from down 5-4 to up 13-6. It kept control throughout the rest of the set, its biggest lead being nine.
- The Scots bounced back to start the third set, jumping out to a 12-4 lead. Alma forced Albion into eight attack errors in the third set. The Scots continued their aggressive pace with kills from Miller, Kara Muxlow (Brown City, Mich. / Brown City) and Brianna Zimmer (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant). Six Scots tallied kills in the set. It ended the set on a 4-1 run to win it 25-14.
- The fourth set started off tightly contested; there were 10 ties within the first 10 points. Down 13-11, Albion went on an 8-0 run to take control. It went on to win the set 25-19.
- Albion started the fifth set up 6-2 before Alma called a timeout. The Britons kept the pressure on coming out of the timeout and eventually took the set 15-7.
Notables
- Friday's match was the fourth time Bush has led the Scots in kills this season.
- Twenty-four digs is a new career high for Miller, besting her previous career-high of 23.
- Sixteen digs is also a career-high for Novak. It is the third time she has notched a double-double in digs and assists in her career.
- Pelach's double-double was her sixth this season.
