ALMA, MI - Alma College Volleyball team concluded its regular-season against the nationally ranked Calvin University Knights in MIAA conference play on Friday. The Scots were defeated in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 27-25, 25-16.
In set one, Alma struggled to contain Calvin's offense, allowing the visitors to jump out to an 11-2 advantage. Despite Alma battling back to deficits of 17-11 and 21-16, the visitors took the opening set. The Scots responded with energy in the second set, taking the lead, and not allowing Calvin their first lead until 8-7. After a timeout at 10-7, the Scots battled back to an 11-11 draw. The Scots pushed on to a 14-12 lead, going on to lead 21-20. After the game was tied at 24-24 the Scots took a lead at 25-24, but Calvin dug in and closed the frame 27-25. The third set saw Alma unable to close an early Calvin lead, with the Knights getting out to a 12-7 advantage. The Scots narrowed the margin to 17-13, but Calvin closed out the match with a 25-16 victory.
Mallorie Nevadomski led with 11 kills to with 8 digs. Natalie Dutton added five kills, and Emily Carling contributed four. Madison Munley had three aces to go with a team-high three blocks. Olivia Deeb and Rudy Maynard each tallied 10 assists, and Grace Steiner had 12 digs.
The result drops the Scots to 9-17 on the season, and 2-6 in MIAA play.
Alma will await the result of Olivet vs Saint Mary's tomorrow evening to determine whether or not the Scots will make the postseason.
