Livonia, MI — Alma College Volleyball came up short on the road Tuesday evening, falling in straight sets to Madonna University by scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-17.
The Crusaders' balanced attack and strong serving saw the hosts control the match from start to finish. Alma showed flashes of rhythm throughout, especially in the third set, but was unable to sustain a run long enough to turn the tide.
Madonna opened the night with a quick start, jumping ahead early in the first set and forcing the Scots to play from behind. Alma kept things close midway through the frame, but a late surge from the Crusaders sealed a 25-16 win. The second set followed a similar pattern, as Madonna's service game created consistent pressure. The Scots battled point-for-point early before the Crusaders used a 9-2 run to pull away. In the third, Alma's offense began to find some rhythm, cutting the deficit to 18-15 late, but Madonna again finished strong to close the match.
The Scots finished with 24 kills. Emily Carling paced the offense with seven kills, and Maggie McKale added five. Grace Steiner anchored the back row with 17 digs, while Olivia Deeb dished out 15 assists.
Madonna countered with 38 kills on 109 swings, hitting .174 as a team. Hope Schriber led all players with 10 kills, while Karlee Stoll contributed 22 assists and nine digs. The Crusaders also held a decisive 12-1 edge in service aces.
With the loss, Alma moves to 9-14 overall, and remains at 2-3 in MIAA play. The Scots are back in action on the road on Friday, taking on Calvin University in a non-conference matchup.
