Alma, Mich. – The Alma College women's soccer team claimed its first victory in the 2017 season Saturday (Sept. 16) with a 6-0 shutout of Saint Mary's College at Scotland Yard. The win over the Belles also marked the first win for the Scots in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Senior Janelle Christensen (Allendale, Mich./Allendale) recorded her first career multi-goal game, scoring in the fifth and 12th minutes to give Alma a 2-0 lead. The Scots added two more goals in the opening half to pull away, then scored twice in the final 45 minutes to seal the victory.

How It Happened

• Two early goals by Christensen sealed the match for Alma in the first 12 minutes.
• The other two first-half goals were scored by juniors Lexi Moyer (Suttons Bay, Mich. / Traverse City West) and Kristina Berzkalns (Byron Center, Mich. / Grandville).
• Freshmen Makenzie Rajewski (Midland, Mich. / Midland) and Lauren Sollestre (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Marian) each had one goal in the second half to reach the final total of six.
• Twelve Scots recorded at least one shot in the match, with Christensen leading the way with six.
• Alma as a team outshot Saint Mary's 31-1, including a 13-1 margin for shots on goal.

Notables

• Since Head Coach Ashley Bingaman took over in 2015, the Scots hold a 5-0 record against the Belles, outscoring them 25-1 in those five contests.
• Today's match marked the first time Alma has scored four first-half goals in a match since October 3, 2015.
• Christensen's two-goal performance was the first for a Scot since October 31, 2016.

Alma's next contest will be at Hope College on Saturday, September 23. The match is scheduled for a noon start.
