Written by Ali Holmquist, Sports Information Student Assistant

Alma, Mich.- The Alma College Scots four-game winning streak was snapped after a 16-7 loss against Albion College Wednesday night (April 5). This game marked the opening of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Junior Shelby Frazer (Holt, Mich. / Holt) netted her first hat trick of the season. Senior Kilee DeBrabander (Marshall, Mich. / Marshall) was close behind with two goals while senior Darby Kahler (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) registered one tying her for eighth in the MIAA for goals. Five of the Scots goals were scored in the second half during a seven-minute uninterrupted run.

During the first ten minutes of play, the Scots (6-3, 0-1 MIAA) and the Britons (2-5, 1-0 MIAA) showed equal strength as Frazer and junior Katie Rogers (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Farmington Hills) each tallied a goal to match Albion. The Britons went on a nine-goal run to make it an 11-2 lead going into the half.

Kahler grabbed her first draw control of a team-high three in the beginning of the second half. She is now tied for fifth in the conference for draw controls. The Britons would extend their lead by scoring four more unanswered goals to start the half. DeBrabander broke the Briton's momentum after finding the back of the net off a free position shot with 13 minutes to go. This was the first of five unanswered goals for the Scots by DeBrabander, Kahler and Frazer. The Scots were able to cut the deficit down to eight before the Briton's scored the final goal of the night with just three minutes left in regulation.

In goal for the Scots was freshman Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) who tied her career-high 15 saves. She is currently first in the MIAA in save percentage with 55.9 percent and goals-against-average with 8.5. Ray also grabbed a career-high and game-high six ground balls. Ray now drops 5-2 for the season.

The Scots are on the road on Saturday (April 8) to face Olivet College. The game is set to start at 3 p.m.
