Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team fell to the Kalamazoo Hornets 15-9 on Tuesday night (April 25). The Scots now drop to 7-7 for the season and 1-5 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Junior Katie Rogers (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Farmington Hills) scored a team-high four points against the Hornets which included two goals and two assists.

The Scots and Hornets showed equal strength in the first half, with the largest margin being two goals. Junior Shelby Frazer (Holt, Mich. / Holt) got the Scots on the board with at the 28:47 mark with Rogers scoring her first goal of the night just 26 seconds later. This is the sixth game this season that the Scots were able to find the back of the net in the opening two minutes.

The Hornets broke the Scots' momentum with a goal of their own before senior Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbrand West) fired back with an assist from Rogers. Rogers has 12 of the team's 27 assists for the season. Junior Brianna Soriano (San Diego, Cali. / Serra) found the back of the net with less than five minutes remaining in the first half to give the Scots a 4-3 lead walking into halftime.

The Hornets came out firing after the halftime break with a 7-0 run within the first nine minutes of play. The Scots attempted to cut down the deficit in the remaining 20 minutes but were out-scored 12-5. Five different Scots scored the five goals including Urick, Soriano, freshman Olivia Benoit (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North), senior Darby Kahler (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater), and Rogers. Soriano's goal at the 10:19 mark was scored on an extra man-up opportunity, the third one for the Scots this season.

In goal the full 60 minutes was freshman Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) who made 15 saves off 30 shots. This is the ninth time this season Ray has made at least 10 saves and the eighth where she had a save percentage of 50 percent or higher. Ray is currently first in the conference for save percentage with 52 percent.

Freshman Mia Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) led the Scots with three draw controls while Soriano trailed with two.

The Scots will return to Bahlke Field on Thursday evening (April 27) to host Trine University. This will be the Scots last home game of the season. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
