Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team fell to Saint Mary's College (Ind.) after a 13-10 decision Thursday night (April 13). The Scots (7-4, 1-2 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) are now sitting sixth in the conference with five games to go. This is the second time the Scots have lost to the Belles (6-6, 3-1 MIAA) in the program's history. 

Junior Shelby Frazer (Holt, Mich. / Holt) scored her second hat trick of the season against the Belles while junior Brianna Soriano (San Diego, Cali. / Serra) followed close behind with two. Frazer is one of four Alma players to have scored in every conference game this season.

Five different Scots were able to find the back of the net in the first half of play to put the Scots 6-10 at halftime. Senior Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbrand West) put the Scots on the board after a behind-the-net assist from Katie Rogers (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Farmington Hills). Rogers is fifth in the conference for assists and has contributed 10 of the Scots 23 assists for the season.

Senior Darby Kahler (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) collected all three of her team-high three draw controls in the first half. The Scots went 9-8 in draw controls against the Belles, who are the MIAA leaders, in the first half. The Belles are also first in the conference in ground balls, yet tied the Scots 25-25 in the game with the Scots going 14-12 in the second half.

Despite outscoring the Belles 4-3 in the second half, the Scots were unable to catch up. Frazer started the half strong for the Scots with a goal at the 28:57 mark and Soriano matched 40 seconds later with her own point. Also adding the scoreboard was senior Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Ann Arbor Pioneer) who cruised coast-to-coast before scoring her first career goal to put the Scots within three. Rogers rounded out the scoring with her tenth goal of the season, tying her career-record for goals in a single-season.

The game saw a lot of stoppage of play due to the Belles committing 54 fouls in the 60 minutes. This allowed the Scots to go 5-9 for free positions attempts, the most goals from the eight-meter mark this season.

Freshman Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) dropped to 6-3 for the season while making 12 saves off 25 shots. Ray continues to lead all goalies in the conference with a save percentage of 55.4 percent. Against the Belles, Ray picked up a game-high seven ground balls, beating her previous career-high six against Olivet College last week.

The Scots will hit the road on Saturday (April 15) to play against the Calvin College Knights in Grand Rapids, Mich. The opening draw is set to begin at 1 pm.
