Women's lacrosse finishes spring break trip with a 5-4 victory

McMinnville, Ore. – The Alma College women's lacrosse team concluded its spring break trip with a 5-4 victory against the Linfield College Wildcats on Wednesday night (March 1). The Scots improve to 2-1 for the season while the Wildcats drop to 1-1.

Freshman Nikki Reece (Livonia, Mich. / Ladywood) led the Scots with three goals and two draw controls while senior Kilee DeBrabander (Marshall, Mich. / Marshall) recorded a career-high four caused turnovers. Also, making her way onto the leaderboard was senior Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbrand West), who snatched up four groundballs.

The Wildcats began the game strong scoring two unanswered goals. Freshman Mia Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) would be able to get the Scots on the board with an unassisted goal. Despite going into the half down 2-1, the Scots outshot (8-5) and collected more groundballs (13-6) than the Wildcats in the first 30 minutes of play.

The Wildcats stretched its lead in the second half to two after an unassisted goal by Dana Brooks. Reece would reduce the lead to one after scoring a free position shot. Senior Darby Kahler (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) found the back of the net on a free position attempt to tie the game 3-3. The Wildcats responded by scoring two minutes later making it a one goal game. Reece would score her final two goals in the last five minutes of play to seal the victory for the Scots.

In goal, freshman Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) saw 60:00 minutes of action while recording 5 saves off 9 shots, making her 2-0 for the season.

The Scots will return to action on March 7, when it hosts Illinois Institute of Technology at Bahlke Field.  Start time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
