Box Score Alma, Mich. - Kaitlyn Kendall (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) scored a career and game-high 23 points against Adrian on Wednesday night, but the Alma College women's basketball team fell to the Bulldogs 76-71. Hannah Thelen (Pewamo, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) made a career-high four three-pointers and finished one point off her career-high with 16 and Abbigale Philipson (Hemlock, Mich./Hemlock) set a new career-high in rebounds with eight in her first start of the season.
"I thought Kenny (Kaitlyn Kendall), Hannah and Abbi played real well tonight and their play kept the game close for us," said Head Coach Kris Johnson.
The Scots (4-12, 3-5 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) trailed 60-61 entering the fourth quarter and were down by as little as five in the frame. Down 66-70 with 3:52 remaining, Tara Padgett (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) made a three-pointer to get the team to within one, but Adrian (9-7, 4-4 MIAA) closed the game out making six of its final seven free throws to seal the win.
As a team, Alma recorded multiple season-highs on Wednesday night, making 10 three-pointers and posting 23 assists. The Scots also shot 47.5-percent (29-of-61) from the field, the third best field goal percentage it has shot in a game this season.
"We shot the ball well and got lots of contributions from all who played," said Johnson. "Our inability to rebound when we know how well they crash the boards is disappointing."
Alma forced 10 Adrian turnovers and pulled 41 rebounds as a team, but allowed 26 offensive rebounds. It also held the Bulldogs to 34.2-percent shooting from the field and 20.7-percent shooting from deep.
The Scots return to the floor on Sunday, January 22 against Illinois Tech at 1:00 p.m. at Art Smith Arena.
