Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team posted its second consecutive draw on Saturday (Sept. 24) afternoon at Scotland Yard, scoring the game's first to goals en route to a 2-2 tie with visiting Calvin College.
Alma (3-3-2 overall, 2-2-2 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) received two goals from junior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant), while Calvin (5-3-1, 4-1-1- MIAA) scored the equalizer in the 80th minute to force overtime.
Earlier in the week, the Scots played to a 1-1 draw at Hope College.
"A point helps, and it was good to see us go up two goals right away," Head Coach Ashley Bingaman said. "That's something that's been lacking. Our first shot on goal goes in, and we are capable of that, but we need to cleanup execution in other areas and be mentally tough for a full game.
"If we take everything we've learned in this week and apply it next week we'll be coming out of the first half of conference play in a good position."
Foote broke through in the first minute, scoring 53 seconds into the game when she tapped the ball past the goal line off a low pass across the crease from senior Macayla Greiner (Hart, Mich./Hart). Alma went up 2-0 in the 13th minute when Foote struck again, this time collecting a rebound after freshman Lexi Moyer (Suttons Bay, Mich./Traverse City West) hit the crossbar.
Calvin's Sydney Barcey pulled the Knights within one goal in the 25th minute when she beat junior goalie Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) to make the score 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, Calvin tied the match in the 80th minute when Allie Corp took a low pass from Brianna Russel along the crease and sent the ball into the right side of the net.
Both teams had scoring changes in the extra sessions, but neither were able to score the deciding goal.
Postema stopped six of the eight shots she faced in the game, while Calvin's Brianna Koehn made seven saves as Calvin outshot the Scots by a 20-17 margin.
The Scots will return to Scotland Yard on Wednesday, Sept. 28, to host Trine University with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m.
