Box Score Alma, Mich. - Playing its fourth match in the last seven days, the Alma College women's soccer team suffered its second straight loss at Scotland Yard, falling by a 4-2 margin to Kalamazoo College on Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon.
Kalamazoo (5-2-1 overall, 4-0-1 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) scored three times in the second half, including goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes, to pull away for the win after the Scots tied the game in the 55th minute.
Alma (3-3-0 overall, 2-2-0 MIAA) opened the scoring in the 31st minute when senior Megan Kalanik (Milford, Mich./Milford) scored off of a pass from junior Macayla Greiner (Hart, Mich./Hart). The Hornets responded with a goal just before halftime when Libby Munoz sent a shot past the goal line with 17 seconds remaining.
In the second half, Kalamazoo took a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute when Paige Sambor beat junior keeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall), but the Scots tied the game less than a minute later when senior Lindsey Lloyd (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Dexter) scored her first career goal off of a Greiner assist. Greiner now has a point in each of her last three games.
Kalamazoo regained the lead in the 63rd minute when Rosella LoChirco scored, then the Hornets' Madison Moote gave Kalamazoo a two-goal advantage with her marker in the 66th minute.
Postema stopped four shots in net for Alma, while Kalamazoo keeper Grace Smith made six saves as the Hornets outshot the Scots by a 22-16 margin.
Alma will travel to Holland, Mich., on Tuesday, Sept. 20, for a 7:00 p.m. meeting with Hope College.
