ALBION, Mich. – For the final time of the 2025 season, the Alma College women's soccer team hit the turf for a conference matchup under the lights at Albion College on Tuesday, October 28th. In a game that saw seven total goals and a lot of back-and-forth action, the Scots were edged out of consecutive conference wins in the final ten minutes of play, dropping the contest by a final score of 4-3.
The contest opened with Alma putting the first shots on goal, getting the gears moving offensively early. Albion fought back from the early Scots push and would tally the game's first goal at the around 24 minutes into action to open the scoring. The Britons strung a second goal together just 40 seconds later, extending their lead to two goals, just over a quarter way into the game. Alma was not going to go down easily as the Scots cut the deficit in half just 30 seconds after the Britons second goal as Emily Ahearn was awarded a penalty kick where she would seize the opportunity and bring the Scots back into a tight game. Scoring settled down after the brigade for about 15 minutes where the Britons would then tally their third of the half to regain a two-goal lead over the Scots, just before halftime.
After trailing at the half, with 45 minutes set on the clock, the Scots knew what they had left to do with the time given. Again, Alma's offense got going to work early coming out of the break, where this time it was able to connect first and cut into the Albion lead. Just 11 minutes into the second frame, Hanah Meyer was able to find the back of the net on a pass from Bryn Bishop, bringing the Scots within one again. Giving all they had left for the final 30 minutes, Alma kept battling and applying pressure on the Albion defense and goalkeeper, looking for the equalizer in the final regular season game. With ten minutes remaining in the game, Grace Sczepanski knotted the game at three aside with a game-tying goal. In return, Albion kicked up the pressure following the goal and within two minutes, the Britons retook the lead with a fourth goal that would stand as the game-winning goal in the final eight minutes of play, setting up the Scots to finish the season with a 9-8-1 record, the first winning record since 2019.
Mya Pofahl played the full 90 in the box for the Scots, making four saves throughout the game. Alma out shot the Britons 21-16 in the contest along with shots on goal, 10-8 in favor of the Scots.
Alma will graduate seniors Alisha Isenberg, Hannah Meyer, Grace Buckingham, Breanna McCluskey, Bryn Bishop, Allyson Harvey and Hannah Whitley. Alma will look to build upon Sam Sibilski's success in his first year at the helm as the program builds towards the 2026 season.
