Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team saw its' three-game winning streak snapped late in the second half on Thursday (Sept. 15) afternoon, falling to Olivet College by a 3-2 margin at Scotland Yard.
Alma (3-2-0 overall, 2-1-0 MIAA) held a 1-0 lead at the half, but Olivet (4-1-1, 2-0-1 MIAA) scored three times in the second half to extend its unbeaten streak to four games. The match was tied at 2-2 heading into the final minutes of play before Olivet's Marisa Lyon collected a turnover deep in the Alma zone and scoring with three minutes remaining.
Senior Macayla Greiner (Hart, Mich./Hart) opened the scoring in the 27th minute, finishing off a rebound shot in front of the goal after sophomore Tori Sailar (Hastings, Mich./Lansing Catholic) sent the ball on net.
The Comets tied the game in the 52nd minute after Ashley Romanowski launched a high arcing shot that drifted over the head of junior goalkeeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) and into the right side of the goal. Olivet struck again two and a half minutes later when Romanowski fed Abby Radcliffe, who took a shot from the right side of the box to give Olivet a 2-1 advantage.
The teams played back-and-forth for most of the second half before junior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) provided the equalizer, tying the game in the 82nd minute when she scored on a run after taking a pass from junior Ashley Bonam (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer).
The teams combined for 40 shots, including 23 on net, as Postema made nine saves for Alma while Olivet keeper Brooklyn Burel stopped nine shots.
The Scots will remain home for a Saturday, Sept. 17 contest against Kalamazoo College. The match begins at noon at Scotland Yard on the campus of Alma College.
