Box Score Angola, Ind. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team ended the season on a positive note on Saturday (Apr. 30) defeating Trine University at the Zollner Athletic Center 12-8. Under direction of first year head coach Ashley Johnson, Alma concluded the overall season 6-8 and 3-5 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).
Two Scots, senior Emily Reverman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) and junior Darby Kahler (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) both lead the team with four goals. Reverman recorded her fifth hat trick of the year and finished the season netting at least one goal in every single game this year except two.
The two teams exchanged two goals a piece, setting the score 2-2 with 17 minutes left to play in the first half. Alma pulled away in the final minutes of the half notching three unanswered goals and the Scots went in to the half with the 7-4 lead. The scoring was distributed evenly for Alma in the half as seven separate Scots all notched a goal a piece.
Alma scored two goals on free position shots going 2-for-3 in the first half while they only allowed Trine to go 1-for-3 on free position attempts. The Scots also picked up seven ground balls to the Thunders five in the half.
The Scots extended their lead to 10-4 after three unanswered goals, two coming from Reverman and one from Kahler on a free position attempt. Trine put on an attempt to cut the lead with a goal from Rebecca Platz but Alma put a quick stop to that netting three more unanswered goals for their largest lead of the game, 13-5.
Trine added a couple more goals but Alma held off the Thunder and won their final game of the season 14-8. Senior Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) tied her career high for the fourth time with four caused turnovers.
Freshman Nikki Holbrook (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills) was in goal for the Scots improving her record to 5-7 on the season. She played all 60 minutes and recorded eight saves in today's victory.
