Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing streak on Thursday (April 28), defeating Adrian College on the road, 10-8. Freshman Carly D'Alessandro (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) netted a season-high four goals in the victory.
Junior Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbrand West) and junior Darby Kahler (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) both scored on a free position shot to give Alma the 2-0 advantage within the first five minutes of play.
The first half remained a low-scoring game, Alma only scored one more time while the Bulldogs netted three goals. The two teams went in to the half knotted 3-3.
Adrian came out of the half and scored first to take its first lead of the game, but a goal from senior Emily Reverman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) on an assist from senior Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) tied the contest at 4-4.
The Bulldogs took the lead 5-4 but the Scots scored two more goals and from there Alma maintained the lead. Adrian came within striking distance but Alma earned the 10-8 victory over the Bulldogs. Freshman Nikki Holbrook (West Jordan Utah, Copper Hills) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Scots allowing only eight goals and tallying 13 saves.
Urick led the squad with six ground balls while senior Ali Holmquist (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) was close behind with five ground balls. Alma was 15-for-17 in clear attempts and they outshot Adrian 29-27 in the 60 minutes of play.
The Scots will have one more game of the season and will travel to Trine on Saturday, April 30, with the game set for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
