Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team concluded their final home game of the season today (Apr. 26) as they hosted Kalamazoo College. Alma was defeated by Kalamazoo 12-8 dropping their record to 4-8 on the season and 1-5 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). Kalamazoo improved to 4-10 and 3-3 in league play.
Senior Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) netted her fifth hat trick of the season. She scored three goals and added an assist for a total of four points. Sophomore Shelby Frazer (Holt, Mich./Holt) also finished the game with three points on two goals and one assist.
Senior Emily Reverman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) scored the first goal on a free position followed by another goal directly after from Frazer on an assist from junior Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, Ill/Glenbrand West). Kalamazoo turned around and netted two goals before Street scored on a free position shot to make the score 3-2.
Alma entered the halftime break with the 5-4 lead over the Hornets as Street led the squad with two of the five goals. Alma and Kalamazoo both finished the half with 13 shots a piece but the Scots finished the half with eight draw controls to Kalamazoo's two.
The second half was a slightly different story as the Scots were out shot 19-8 while Kalamazoo also picked up 10 ground balls to Alma's six. Kalamazoo came out of the half scoring three unanswered goals, two of which game from Kalamazoo's Amanda Moss giving the Hornets the 7-5 advantage.
Street scored for a third time at the 27:15 mark to cut the lead 7-6 but the Hornets pulled away to take the 10-6 lead with 19:21 left to play in the game. Frazer notched a goal on an assist from Street and freshman Carly D'Alessandro (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) added a goal on a free position but it was not enough for the Scots and they fell to the Hornets 12-8.
Senior Ali Holmquist (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) finished with a season-high of four ground balls and Street paced Alma with six ground balls. Holmquist also led all players tying a career high of three caused turnovers.
The Alma College women's lacrosse has finished their regular season home games but still have two more MIAA games before the regular season concludes. Alma will travel to Adrian College on Thursday (Apr. 28) for a start time of 7:00 p.m. under the lights. The Scots last regular season game will take place this Saturday (Apr. 30) at Trine University. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
