Women's Lacrosse downs Olivet, 18-1

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team broke a two game win streak and nabbed their first victory in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rolling over Olivet College with an 18-1 victory. 

Alma had nine separate Scots score in today's victory but junior Darby Kahler (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) netted a career high five goals leading the squad. She also led the team with another career high of 10 draw controls. Junior Kaitlyn Urick (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbrand West) and senior Emily Reverman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) both added three goals a piece. 

Alma scored the first goal in the first 20 seconds of play and never looked back netting 11 unanswered goals in the first half. Kahler and Urick both scored two goals a piece in the first half to pace the way for the Scots. 

The second half was similar for the Scots while Alma netted four consecutive goals, two of which coming from Reverman. Olivet got on the board for the first time and only time with 15:40 left to play in the second half while Alma maintained the 15-1 lead. The Scots added three more assurance goals before earning the 18-1 victory over the Comets.

Freshman Nikki Holbrook (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills) was in net for the entire 60:00 minutes of the game. She allowed only one goal and picked up one save to move her season record to 3-4.

Alma picked up 32 ground balls today and were led by senior Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) who picked up seven. As a team the Scots were also 9-9 in clear attempts and were 4-4 in free position shots. 

Today marked the first day of a two game home stretch for the Alma College women's lacrosse team. The Scots will host Calvin College this Saturday (Apr. 16) at Bahlke Field with a 7:00 p.m. start time. Saturday will also mark Senior Day for the Scots as Alma will be graduating four seniors from the squad.
