Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team defeated NAIA opponent Aquinas College on their home field, in Grand Rapids, Mich. After the victory the Scots record improved to 3-3 on the season and while Aquinas' record moved to 0-7.
Aquinas jumped to the quick 2-0 lead after scoring two goals but the Scots responded with two of their own from sophomore Shelby Frazer (Holt, Mich.) and senior Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton). The Scots would allow another goal at the 18:25 mark but then proceeded to score four consecutive goals to take the 6-3 lead over the Saints. The Scots would go in to the half with the 7-4 lead.
Alma came out of the first half on a tear scoring three consecutive goals, two of which coming from Street. Alma allowed Aquinas to score six goals in the second half but still out scored them, tallying eight goals in the second half.
Out of seven Scot scorers, Street led the squad with four goals in the victory all while leading the team with six draw controls and two assists. Senior Emily Reverman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge) also added two assists. Freshman Carly D'Alessandro (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) had a season high, seven ground balls.
Junior Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and freshman Nikki Holbrook (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills) split time in the goal. Kruse had four saves and Holbrook recorded eight saves in the win.
Alma will begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play next Wednesday (Apr. 6) at home at Alma College. The game is set to start under the lights at 7:00 p.m. at Bahlke Field.
