Box Score Holland, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team dropped the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championship game to Hope 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Scots finish the season with an overall record of 9-6-5 and conference record of 8-4-4.
Alma began the scoring in the third minute when Megan Kalanik (Milford, Mich./Lakeland) received a pass in the middle of the box and shot to the keeper's right. It was Kalanik's second goal within the first three minutes of the postseason - she also scored in the third minute in the MIAA Semifinal game at Kalamazoo.
After Hope tied the game in the 23rd minute, Alma was quick to respond with a Whitney Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) goal in the 28th minute. Her twelfth score of the season came on a pass from Taylor Roberts (Jackson, Mich./Northwest) on a fast break. Roberts fed Foote as she was streaking to the box and she chipped it just past the Hope keeper as she came out to defend the shot.
Hope would go on to tie the match in the in the 31st minute and picked up two unanswered goals in the second half to take the title.
Alma's second place conference finish is its best since the 2011 season when it won the MIAA Championship and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
